So who/what is Ferras? (Besides hot) He is a singer and a songwriter who released his debut album Aliens & Rainbows in 2008. He is not very well known, but his song "Hollywood’s Not America" has achieved some popularity, and is the song that most people know him by. He followed up his first album with an EP - "Interim - The Time Between". Currently, he is writing for other musicians and working on his second album, which apparently will be out this summer (However, I remember him saying that his new album would be out last year… ;_; Stuff behind the scenes must be slowing it down, I’m just remaining optimistic.) He is also openly gay.

His style of music is pop. Wikipedia lists his genres as Pop rock and Piano pop. He has a really great voice, and his album is some damn good pop music. The songs on his album are catchy, his lyrics are interesting, relatable, and have substance.

I’ll go over the songs from his first album. Liberation Day gives you a great idea of his style and voice. It’s a fun song and the opener of the album. Aliens & Rainbows discussions his feelings of isolation and just not feeling like you belong. Something About You is a love song with great lyrics and instrumental. Unlike a lot of artists, Ferras’ love songs don’t come off as overly sappy or cliche to me (which is kind of hard to accomplish since I usually hate most love songs). Especially the more sincere and stripped down songs like Rush. (Ferras is good friends with Katy Perry, and sung a duet of this song with her once.) My Beautiful Life is one of the most interesting off the album, where he only talks for the verses. Blame, Blame, Blame is the most fun off the record. Dear God starts off simple but surprises you with it’s changes for the pre-chorus and chorus, and uses strings. It’s a song about someone questioning their faith, one of my favorites off the record. My #1 is Hollywood’s Not America, though, and is one of my favorite songs of all time.

His EP is simply him with a piano. The standout song is Marshmallow Spaceship, about a childhood friend who moved away. Wall Around My Heart is another great song, about somebody building a wall around themself (what a surprise!)

I hoped this ended up decent, since I SUCK at writing things like this or describing songs lol. If you liked any of the songs, please check out (aka buy) his CDs! Ferras is one of my favorite artists, and one of the few who’s music makes me think and touches my soul, so I would really like to see him get more recognition. You can buy Aliens & Rainbows on Amazon/iTunes and his EP on iTunes.

I don’t know if anyone remembers that one tumblr post with the song “Weightless” which is supposed to be the most relaxing song ever, but I went back on my blog to listen to it, and it wasn’t working, so I searched a Youtube version.

Listening to the new Melodic Taste “Anime Orchestra II” Album

oh my god this is amazing

I loved the first one, this is even better. It has a Orchestral side for Disc 1, and then a Vocal Side for Disc 2. It has songs from Madoka, AnoHana, iDOLM@STER, and lots others.

You can download both of the CDs here:

Kanon covering Ai Oboete Imasu ka, an iconic anime song. This is a really good cover, but nothing will top Minmay’s version.
